Job Summary
Brief Description
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Android AOSP Hardware Enablement Engineer to bring up and enable automotive hardware platforms for Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Android Automotive OS (AAOS) builds.
The engineer will be responsible for enabling the underlying hardware and software stack required to build, boot, and operate Android on an automotive SoC platform. This includes bootloader configuration, Linux kernel integration, device tree development, vendor BSP integration, hardware driver enablement, Android build configuration, and debugging of hardware-related boot and runtime issues.
The candidate will work closely with SoC vendors, hardware teams, BSP developers, kernel engineers, and Android framework teams to deliver a stable and functional Android infotainment platform.
Key Responsibilities
AOSP Build System and Platform Integration
- Set up and maintain AOSP source code and development environments.
- Configure and execute Android platform builds using Soong, Android.bp, Make, and related build tools.
- Integrate vendor-provided Android BSP packages into the AOSP source tree.
- Configure product definitions, device configurations, board configurations, and vendor-specific build components.
- Develop and maintain device-specific build configurations, including device/, vendor/, and relevant kernel integration components.
- Configure product makefiles, product packages, build variants, and system/vendor partition requirements.
- Resolve build failures, dependency issues, missing modules, and compilation errors.
- Maintain build scripts and documentation for repeatable platform builds.
Bootloader and Platform Bring-Up
- Enable the Android boot process on new or existing automotive hardware platforms.
- Work with bootloaders such as U-Boot or vendor-specific implementations based on the target SoC.
- Configure boot arguments, boot targets, image loading, memory reservations, and device tree handoff.
- Coordinate with SoC vendors to resolve platform-specific boot and firmware issues.
Linux Kernel and Device Tree Enablement
- Integrate and configure vendor Linux kernels compatible with the selected Android release.
- Enable required kernel configurations and device drivers for the target hardware.
- Develop, modify, and debug Device Tree Source (DTS/DTSI) files and overlays.
- Configure hardware resources such as GPIOs, clocks, regulators, interrupts, IOMMU, DMA, and memory regions.
- Integrate vendor kernel modules and troubleshoot module loading or dependency issues.
Hardware Driver and Peripheral Enablement
Enable and validate the hardware peripherals required for an automotive infotainment system, including:
- Display interfaces such as MIPI DSI, eDP, LVDS, or HDMI, depending on the platform.
- Touchscreen controllers and input devices.
- Audio codecs, I²S/TDM interfaces, amplifiers, and audio routing dependencies.
- USB host/device controllers, storage, and peripheral connectivity.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and Ethernet interfaces.
- Camera interfaces and sensor connectivity, where applicable.
- I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO, PCIe, and other SoC peripherals.
- Automotive CAN interfaces and related transceivers, where supported by the platform.
- Power management ICs, thermal sensors, watchdogs, and suspend/resume functionality.
Hardware Debugging and System Validation
- Debug the complete boot flow from bootloader to Android launcher.
- Analyze bootloader logs, kernel dmesg, Android Logcat, tombstones, and service startup logs.
- Use ADB, fastboot, serial consoles, JTAG, and hardware debugging tools as available.
Automotive Platform Integration
- Enable and validate Android Automotive OS on automotive infotainment reference boards and target hardware.
- Work with automotive SoC platforms and vendor BSPs from suppliers such as Qualcomm, NXP, or MediaTek, depending on project requirements.
- Coordinate with hardware design, BSP, firmware, Android framework, and application teams.
- Support hardware variants, board revisions, and product-specific configurations.
- Assist with Android compatibility testing and platform validation requirements.
- Support integration of automotive features such as vehicle properties, audio, display, connectivity, and power-state management.
- Follow applicable automotive development, security, and software quality requirements.
