Job Purpose
We are seeking a seasoned and technically proficient Software Technical Project Manager to spearhead complex
software development projects with a strong focus on our operations and partnerships in Japan. This role
demands a unique blend of deep technical expertise, exceptional project management skills, and strong cross-cultural communication abilities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in bridging communication gaps, ensuring project success, and fostering strong relationships with our Japanese stakeholders.
Job Description / Duties and Responsibilities
• Project Leadership & Execution:
o Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple, concurrent software development projects from initiation to closure, adhering to established timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
o Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and alignment.
o Develop comprehensive project plans, including detailed work breakdown structures, resource allocation, risk management strategies, and communication plans.
o Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, escalating as necessary to ensure timely resolution.
o Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and report regularly to stakeholders on project status, risks, and accomplishments.
o Ensure compliance with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and best practices (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Hybrid).
o Drive continuous improvement in project management processes and tools.
• Technical Acumen:
o Possess a strong understanding of various software development methodologies, programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++, .NET), databases, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and modern software architectures.
o Be able to deep dive into technical discussions, understand technical challenges, and guide development teams.
o Facilitate technical decision-making and ensure solutions align with architectural principles and business requirements.
o Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance project efficiency and product quality.
• Cross-Cultural Communication & Collaboration (Japan Focus):
o Fluency in Japanese (JLPT N3+ required): Act as the primary technical and project communication bridge between our Indian teams and Japanese clients/partners.
o Conduct meetings, presentations, and negotiations in Japanese with confidence and cultural sensitivity.
o Understand and effectively navigate Japanese business etiquette, communication styles, and decision-making processes.
o Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with Japanese stakeholders at all levels.
o Translate complex technical concepts and project updates accurately between English and Japanese.
o Facilitate seamless collaboration and understanding across diverse cultural teams.
• Team Management & Mentorship:
o Lead, mentor, and motivate cross-functional project teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
o Provide guidance and support to team members, ensuring their professional growth and development.
o Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
o Facilitate effective communication and conflict resolution within project teams.
• Stakeholder Management:
o Manage expectations of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and timely communication.
o Build and maintain strong relationships with senior management, clients, vendors, and other key stakeholders.
o Present project updates, proposals, and post-mortems to various audiences.
• Adhere to the Information Security Management policies and procedures.
Job Specification / Skills and Competencies
• Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in software project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex software projects.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Mandatory JLPT N3+ certification with excellent demonstrable proficiency in spoken and written Japanese.
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development or engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of various SDLC methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Hybrid). PMP, CSM, or equivalent project management certifications are a strong plus.
• Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Asana, Monday.com, MS Project).
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage diverse teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel extensively and reside for extended periods in Japan as required by project demands.
• Experience working with Japanese clients or in a Japanese business environment is highly desirable.
